Calgary Rose Society - Events in 2011 and 2012

Here are the Calgary Rose Society's 2011-2012 events listed by month.

All Members' Meetings are held at the Scandinavian Cultural Centre, 739 – 20^th Avenue N.W. at 7:30 pm. Non members are welcome but are charged a small entrance fee. If you would like more information on any of the listed events, or have ideas on seminars or workshops, please e-mail us.

Members' Meeting

Topic - Promoting Pollination with A.B.C.

Speaker - Eliese Watson, founder of A.B.C. (Apiaries and Bees for Communities)

Ms. Watson has worked on projects with the Calgary Horticultural Society and Mount Royal University, as well as placing a permanent educational installation at Calgary Zoo. Ms Watson will share her passion for bees and explain their beneficial place in our gardens.

December 2011:

The CRS has no events in December. Don't forget to order your roses for next year!

January 2012:

Topic - Tissue Culture in Roses

Speakers: Dr. Guna Oinam of the Botany Department of the University of Calgary, and Cherie Lowe, long time member of the Calgary Rose Society.

March 2012:

The CRS has no events in March for members, but now is the perfect time to review last year, and plan for this year's garden. Check out books from the library or search the internet for information on gardening and growing roses. Mark your calendar for our meetings and special events. Will you redesign your rose beds this year or perhaps develop new ones? What roses will you grow this year? Where will you plant them? Could 2012 be the year you win a ribbon or trophy at the Annual Show? Use this time to plan and dream!

April 2012:

The vote of every Member matters so please plan to attend to vote on our new Board of Directors. Following the formal part of the meeting we will have a presentation as follows:

April 14 and 15 --

Calgary Horticultural Society's Garden Show at Spruce Meadows. Once again we will be hosting a booth at this show. Different varieties of roses will be available for sale, so come early for the best selection. We love to "talk roses" so please feel free to drop by our booth.

May 2012:

Mini Rose Sale

This sale is a major fund raiser for the society. Come early for the best selection.

Thursday, May 10^th: Members only from 4 pm to 8 pm.

Friday, May 11^th: Open to public from 4 pm to 8 pm.

Saturday, May 12^th: Open to public from 11 am to 4 pm.

Two locations: 4823 - 5th Avenue S.W. and 443 - 19th Avenue N.E.

June 2012:

This will be a "hands on" seminar with audience participation.

July 2012:

The 40^th Annual Rose Show will be held at the North Hill Shopping Centre. Dates and full details will be available in the spring of 2012.
